Many people are concerned about moving their child from their crib to a toddler bed too soon or too late. There is a criteria, but it will be a little different for each child. You have to consider the child’s age, size, and his mental and emotional development to cope with such a big change.
Your child can move to a toddler bed if he is already starting to climb out of the crib. Climbing out of cribs is really dangerous.
If your child is three feet tall or taller you should probably move them out of the crib because they are just getting too large for most cribs. A child should be moved to a bed if he gets too big and active for a crib. A child should also be in a bed if he already started potty training so he can get up when he need to.
Between 18 months to 3 and a half years old, it’s safe to move kids to toddler beds. But many experts agree that it’s better if your child is almost three years old before putting him in a toddler bed. This is a big change for most children, they are giving up their familiar and comfortable crib. This can make it a very stressful situation for the child, if it seems to be causing undue stress for your little one you are certainly better off to hold off and wait a little longer before moving the child.
If your child climbs out of the crib but isn’t ready for a toddler bed, then you can do something else. Crib tents would be a good idea. This is a framework covered with a mesh like cloth that appears very similar to the popular dome tents. This mounts on the top of the rails of the crib and fully encloses it to keep the baby from climbing out of the crib and possibly injuring themselves.
Whenever you do decide to move the child try to get them excited about it and carefully monitor how they are reacting to the change. You can do plenty to make the move easier for him.

Prior to mastering the art of speech, your baby has great difficulty in communicating his needs to you. But there is a solution to this frustrating dilemma. To recognize and respond to a baby’s needs, baby sign language is used and its becoming even more popular.
Babies can be taught sign language from any age, but they really begin to take notice of the signs from around six months and may begin using them from as early as seven to eight months of age. A lot of parents will testify that babies can understand more than they’re able to communicate during this stage.
There are parents who are cautious because they believe using baby sign language may hamper speech development. But according to research, children during infancy who are taught baby sign language develop excellent language skills. Some cases even show these very children having increased ability to learn a second language and learn to speak earlier.
Children developing a higher than average IQ is one of the benefits of introducing baby sign language. For parents, the advantage is being able to identify the needs of their baby and appropriately respond. Parents may feel a deeper bond with their child once this channel of communication is open and it also creates a great sense of harmony.
Learning baby sign language with your baby is part of the fun and there are various methods of learning. It is important to remember to say the word when introducing any signs to your baby and to use the signs consistently – both in the home and outside it. You can also have anyone caring for your child to familiarize themselves with the signs you’re using.
Some people like to invent their own signs to use with their babies, whereas others prefer to use conventional signs based on formal sign language – the advantage of using these is that they are recognised by a wide group of people. There are many books, DVDs and flashcards available, based on formal signing, that make learning this new skill both simple and enjoyable.
If you want to achieve an insight into the mind of your baby, then take into account the benefits that this simple communication can bring.

Does your baby sleep through the day, and keep you up at night? This has been the cry of mothers and fathers heard round the world for centuries.
A newborn baby can sleep 16 to 20 hours in a day. But this occurs in about 3 or 4 periods. You just need your baby to get into a sleeping schedule. If your baby has a routine, you’ll be able to have time to rest, to do chores, or anything.
You may just be one tweak away from a good night’s rest. Here are some ideas that will help your baby sleep on a schedule.
The key to getting a baby to sleep consistently is by keeping bedtime rituals. You should not do different routines for getting your baby to sleep. You should be very consistent.
You should turn down the lights and keep the nursery room quiet when it’s almost bedtime. Something as simple as a dishwasher or dryer can interrupt your baby’s sleeping schedule on any given night. It’s best to keep the nursery area quiet.
You prepare your baby for bedtime with routines. They should involve relaxing and soothing the baby. Rocking the baby or singing a lullaby works well here.
You should keep the nursery at the right temperature. A comfortable room temperature will help your child comfortably sleep through the night without waking.
Babies do cry at times, though. Many parents use the controlled crying method. When the baby starts to cry, let him be for five minutes before you do anything. Do no more than pat him and soothe him with words. Do not pick him up out of his cot. Every time you go into the nursery, be sure that you are speaking soothingly. By waiting 5 to 10 minutes, your baby will learn that crying will not help and your reassuring voice will help your baby feel secure.
Babies usually sleep through the night when they are nine months old or so. Everything comes and goes.

One of the most important things you can buy for your baby is his/her baby stroller, and you may sometimes have a hard time making a decision. Before you buy this item, make sure you have taken note of the following factors.
Safety
Before anything else, take safety into consideration. The stroller must not tip over if you place something on the handles, so make sure that it’s stable. Some strollers have a container underneath where you can place heavy objects, so you may want to check these out. Choose the ones with removable containers so you can fold the item conveniently.
Take note of the harness that would hold the baby in. Babies aged 0 to 1 would benefit best from a five point harness. A 3 point harness may be enough for an older toddler or occasional use.
Comfort
This would be pertaining to the baby’s comfort level. Go adjustable, or go with a stroller where the handles can easily be reached by you or your spouse. Make sure it handles corners smoothly and that your feet do not hit the wheels or tray when you walk faster.
How Old Is Your Baby?
A reclining seat would be necessary for young babies. If you are buying for a new baby, you can find strollers that will convert when the child is older. Be aware, though, that not too many strollers would allow your baby to face you rather than the world outside.
Umbrella Strollers
An umbrella stroller is usually lightweight without full weather protection. While they fold easily, making them ideal for travelers, they aren’t as protective from bad weather as the name implies, and don’t have too many other features.
As For The Standard Strollers…
Aside from having larger wheels and better-looking handles, a standard stroller has more convenience features, mainly protection from the weather and storage baskets. They will fold but they are larger, heavier and more awkward to travel with. They can be inconvenient in large crowds, too. But most parents come to love their standard stroller and so do the kids.
Jogging Strollers
Adventurous families benefit best from these types of strollers. All-terrain wheels and extra stability features make for a hardier ride. They are not recommended for babies under 6 months old.
Travel System for Strollers
By installing a basic travel system (a baby car seat that is fitted to the car, conveniently fitting into the stroller), you can drive without having to worry about your baby. This allows a small baby to be moved from the car to the stroller and back in the same seat. When the child is older the travel system converts to a standard stroller.
Strollers For Multiple Children
You can choose from double systems if you have more than one child not yet old enough to walk. Both children seat next to each other in twin strollers. An alternative version has one seat placed behind the other – this is perfect for parents with one baby and one toddler.
And yet another alternative stroller is the sit-and-stand, which allows a toddler to stand on a platform, and not a seat. This is good for kids who want to feel more independent but still need to be pushed sometimes. Or, you can have two lightweight strollers that clip together when they are both needed, but you have the option of only taking one. The baby stroller can be used in many creative and interesting ways.

Once you have your much-awaited baby in your arms, you’ll feel like no harm can get between you and your baby. All that counts from that moment on is to keep your baby healthy and happy. It’s not too hard to have a baby, and if you follow these easy tips, it won’t be hard to take care of your baby the right way either.
Cloth diapers are a more natural choice over disposable diapers. If you’re concerned that cloth diapers aren’t as sanitary as disposable ones, you’ll be delighted to find that they’re just as sanitary and are actually better for your baby.
There are some things you can do to keep your diapers clean and fresh: Once you remove a soiled diaper, immediately place it in a designated diaper pail. Make sure the pail is emptied and cleaned every two days at most for odor control. Typically, you should rinse in cold water first, and then proceed to wash in hot water.
Use about a quarter of the amount of detergent usually recommended, to avoid any irritation of the baby’s skin. You can also rinse twice in warm water. Some moms opt for the double rinse anyway, just to be sure, and they dry clothes in warm air. Chemicals like bleach or stain remover should be avoided. You shouldn’t use fabric softeners either, since they can harm your baby.
Hopefully you have decided to breastfeed instead than bottle feeding. Breastfeeding is the best choice for mom, baby, and the planet. Your body will thank you. Breastfeeding is one of the most natural and basic processes, and it is an important one. While your baby is still only a few days old, breast milk provides your baby’s immune system with important protective antibodies.
Breast-fed babies are less likely to develop rashes, infections, asthma and stomach issues; research shows that even obesity can be prevented by breastfeeding.
If, however, breastfeeding is not in the cards for you, don’t feel too bad. Many women tend to opt out of breastfeeding so that they can go back to work and so their partner will have just as much of an opportunity to feed the baby as they do.
Many manufacturers make available organic baby formula, including soy formula. There is also a variety of recipes to make homemade formula. You should check with your doctor before you try homemade formula on your baby.
You can make goat’s milk formula by mixing together 12-13 ounces of goat’s milk and 18-19 ounces of mountain spring water. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar and mix. You can warm the bottle in warm tap water, but make sure it doesn’t get too hot!

Kids are a joy for most parents. Most parents find great pleasure from interacting with their children and watching them grow up with the help of their guidance. While joyous, raising kids is certainly far from easy. The parenting tips below might be just what you need to solve one or two problems.
An important component of parenting is teaching your child how to eat a balanced diet. You can do this and make it fun for all. Take your child to the grocery store with you. These trips can be a fun teaching experience. Discuss where the grains, proteins, vegetables, fruits and dairy products come from and how they build big, strong bodies.
Make time to play with your child every single day. Even if you are busy, carve out half an hour to make a play date. This consistent play time has many benefits. It helps your child exercise, it builds the child’s imagination and it helps to increase the child’s self-esteem!
If you’re having trouble getting your toddler to cooperate with getting dressed, try finding a picture book where the main character has to get dressed. Encourage your child to act along with the book, and turn getting dressed into a game. Toddlers are more willing to do things when they are fun.
Make sure you start feeding your kid healthy food from a very young age if you want it to catch on. You should start out with all-natural organic baby food products and then try to expand on healthy food from there. Sure, some other things in moderation will be okay, but treats should be the exception and not the rule.
What experts say is true– reading books to your child is very important. Children learn just about everything by reading, from colors and numbers, to shapes and letters. Experts believe that 30 minutes of book reading each night could have your child on the way to reading before they even reach kindergarten!
Being a parent of a teen isn’t easy, but to make it a little easier, you probably should get to know who their friends are. Invite them over for dinner, and get a feel for the type of people they are. It’s better to get to know their friends and make the effort rather than just flat out refusing them, “just because.”
Take good care of your relationship with your spouse. If you and your partner are on the same page and communicating well with each other, your children will grow up in a positive environment. In addition, your children need to understand that there are times they can’t be your sole focus.
Parenting is not a science, so while not everyone will agree on particular thing, you can choose and try different things to see what works for you. This is important. Take the advice that you feel will get the results that you want from your child. You now have solid information and advice; the next step is up to you. Good luck!

The bodies of toddlers and older children are starting to take on the characteristics of an adult, but they still bear some characteristics of babies, in that their body temperature is rising but is still not up to maximum. It is important to keep toddlers warm, but not to let them swelter. Therefore, you have to get hold of suitable clothing for toddlers and older children.
The fabric used in the garments is more important now because toddlers are active and some materials may cause friction, static and skin irritations. Other textiles may retain perspiration which is another cause of possible irritation.
It cannot be stressed too much that cold can result in disease in children. You should aspire to keep your toddler’s body temperature constant. Any sudden drop in temperature can render your child vulnerable to illness, while overheating can also have the same result. The areas most at risk are the air passages and the lungs.
No matter what kind of clothing you decide to dress your child in, you should control its temperature according to the ambient temperature of the season and whether you are in or out of doors in the same manner as you would do for yourself: that is by putting on and taking off layers of clothing. Be wary of under dressing in Spring and Autumn, because errors then can lead to congestion and inflammation.
Flannel is a good fabric for children to wear because it is warm but it also absorbs perspiration. Some infants find flannel a little too rough on their skin, so you will have to look out for abrasions, but in general, the roughness of flannel has a beneficial, stimulating effect on the skin of children, especially when they are playing outside.
If you do notice reddishness caused by rough flannel, you could swap for cotton garments when they come in or go to sleep. Creams might be the only answer you need as the skin becomes tough enough to tolerate the flannel.
Infants grow so rapidly that you always have to be aware of clothing becoming restrictive. At this stage in a young child’s life, you ought to pay particular attention to the torso or boys and girls. The chest muscles must be allowed to expand as they will become be the source of strength in later life.
Likewise, the waist and groin, particularly in boys, must be free from encumbrance. Overly tight nappies or underpants on a boy can have serious consequences for his later life.
Girls fare better at this early stage in their growth in that their sexual organs are internal, but as girls emerge from this phase, some cultures force girls to adopt restrictive practices which can have harmful effects on their health way into later life.
Overly tight clothing around the midriff is harmful to the development of the internal organs. Corsets or girdles should certainly be ruled out. The peer pressure to wear make up on such young skin can also result in problems like rashes and even acne and so must be resisted at all cost.

It’s been proven that when parents are connected with their child every step of the way, children are more confident, more hardworking, and more ambitious in their involvements. It enhances their cognitive growth, maintains their commitments, builds up parent-child relationship, and has an absolute effect on a child’s complete academic undertakings. At the same time, parents get an optimistic view on their roles, it steps up their confidence in child-rearing, and be very contented with their child’s academic involvement in school.
But how can we connect with them? Today we are faced with many challenges daily which makes doing that a little bit challenging. Never worry because with thorough reflective thinking you can arrive at ways to develop your encounters with your child smoothly and cheerfully.
First thing to do is to learn your child’s passion. Maybe you’ve considered doing some volunteer activities at school when your child is more passionate about joining the Girl Scouts troop. If that occurs, then support your child in her sports career. You could show support by fixing a garage sale to raise funds for their upcoming recital.
Consider your own abilities that might be useful in your kid’s school. Perhaps your child’s school needs somebody who can manage fundraisers or somebody who is good at designing backdrops for the school play. Take note that your child will be delighted to see that you’re also having fun volunteering at school and you’re not doing it just for somebody’s approval.
What truly matters is you show your support all the way. Parents who uphold their connections to their child are more likely to develop highly responsible adults. You will reap rewards by supporting your child. It’s going to be a win-win matter for you both.

There is nothing quite like the deep seated sense of joy that comes with being a new parent. Losing sleep is also something that new parents have to cope with. Luckily, there a several different options available to new parents that will help them to get as much sleep as they can. As with any new baby there is not much chance of you keeping your Sunday lie ins but these tips will at least help you to get enough sleep to keep you sane.
Split The Days
In the middle of the night when the baby cries it is usual that both parents get up even if only one sees to the baby. Though in the first few months both parents will get up and check on the baby when it cries. This means that both parents will suffer from a lack of sleep. Putting in place a plan where only one parent goes to the baby each time it cries is the best way forward. Alternating between parents is the best way of making sure that everyone gets a little extra sleep.
When Your Child Naps So Should You
If you are looking after your child when it takes a nap then it is a good idea for you to take a nap as well. This means you can catch up on some sleep. It is a great idea to nap with your child because you never know when they will wake up.
Accepting Help Is Not Failure
A lot of the time when you have a new baby there will be people clamoring to take your baby off you hands for a few hours, your parents, siblings, friends and other family members. that means that you have an offer of help when you are really desperate for some sleep all you need to do is accept. Having your mom look after her grandchild is a great way for them to bond and for you to catch up with someone much needed sleep.
Don’t Sleep With Your Baby
It is a good idea if your baby sleeps in their own room and not in the same bed with you. It is very tempting to allow your baby to share your bed with you but this is unhealthy for all of you. So it is best for you to put you baby down in their own bed in their own room. That way when the baby cries the designated parent can get out of bed and comfort the child without disturbing the other parent any more than necessary.
Make Feeding The Baby The Last Thing You Do For The Night
If baby has been asleep for a few hours and it is coming close to 11pm then you might want to wake your baby up for a feed before you go to bed. most babies wake in the night because they are hungry so feeding them last thing before you go to sleep will ensure that they sleep until early morning. This will give you several solid hours of sleep, albeit not as much as you would prefer.

Considered as an extremely trying time in your life is if you have a child who has been diagnosed with a serious birth disorder. You may be facing a lot of challenges, both physical and emotional, ahead of you. Right now you are probably on an emotional roller coaster ride, and are having difficulty just getting through the day. Here are some tips that will hopefully help you deal with the adjustments in your life.
How about learning all that you can about your child’s disorder? It’s going to be painful to hear the details, but knowledge is power. Since you can cope better with what you understand, it will therefore be better to learn as much as you can. What you should do if your child’s birth disorder is one that has a nationally recognized foundation, like Down syndrome, is contact them. You never know, they can be a wealth of knowledge and support.
Be sure that you give yourself permission to grieve This is not what you expected, and you need to mourn the perfect, healthy baby you planned. You will truly be able to accept and love your child the way she is once you have had the ample time to mourn this particular loss.
Getting help. What you need right now is physical and emotional help. Finding someone to talk to about your feelings of anger, hurt, guilt and loss is a good idea. It is possible for you to get the emotional help that you need from a friend or a relative or you may need to speak to a professional. Depending upon the extent of the disorder, you may also need physical help caring for this child. If you require special services, then your pediatrician should be able to help you find some.
You can expect other people to be uncomfortable You would still have to deal with it even if it is not really your problem. Other people don’t know what to say. You can make things easier on yourself by breaking the ice with these people. This may seem like something you shouldn’t have to do but you may want to take it upon yourself to contact your friends and try to make them feel comfortable if you want to get your friendships back to normal as quickly as possible. It’s a good thing that there are some people who will be by your side no matter what and you can rely on them to get you through the first few weeks.
Having a child with a birth disorder may well be the biggest challenge you ever face. You can take the steps necessary to find the right services and support you and your family needs and know that help is available.

Before returning to the workforce, selecting a daycare is one of the most important decisions that you will make.
Why? Whichever center you choose, they will be responsible for your child’s well being and safety the 5-9 hours a day they are left in the care of the center.
Whether you are looking for a home child care provider or an official daycare center, there are several things you should keep in mind before signing your children up for care.
Consider the location. First and foremost, you have to decide where you would like to have your child cared for. In a center close to your home or your job is where this could be or you may prefer care in your home. When you have decided on the location, then it’s time to investigate on the available centers or providers in that area.
You should ask for references. Have you asked your friends and other family members with children for references about good daycare centers? These are usually considered as the most reliable source of information about daycare.
Interviewing the Daycare Staff. If you haven’t met the staff, then don’t place your child in a daycare center. The director as well as the caregivers that will be looking over your little one are the people you should meet. Questions that you could ask them would include their standards, disciplinary procedures, sleep and even feeding routines. Staff members who are enthusiastic, dedicated, warm, and caring are what you should look for. In everything that they do, their love of children should be evident. You should look somewhere else if you are not comfortable with the staff.
Check References. As we mentioned you should check with your family and friends for references to a decent day care center. In order to confirm their qualifications, you should also ask the center for a list of references you can call. One thing you might also inquire about is staff turn over. The higher the rate of turn over the more likely there is to be trouble.
A good day care center will of course have the following: a clean environment, a good reputation, solid rules and a curriculum that includes lots of playtime, physical activity, learning activities and even quiet time.
When determining whether a daycare is good or not, also keep in mind staff ratios. When there are six infants, then generally the ratio for babies should be one caregiver for every three children and one for every four if there are eight.
The ratio is usually 1:3 for six children, 1:5 for ten and 1:4 for 12 for toddlers aged 12-24 months.
Check to see if the ratio falls within recommended guidelines but is also acceptable to you.
Another thing you should make sure of is that the daycare facility is operating using a valid non-expired license. If you want to check if a license is valid, then try calling your local social services department.

A good parent will recognize that learning about parenting is a life long task. Use the expert advice provided here, and you will put yourself in the best position for raising your children to the best of your ability.
You do not necessarily need to spend a fortune on a nursery for your little one. Some department stores, such as WalMart, have high quality items at affordable prices. You can get everything you need for a fraction of the price by shopping at one of these stores. Many times, friends and family members have nursery gear that they no longer use, that they might be willing to lend or give to you.
Although difficult, it is important for parents of college-bound students not to exert pressure on their child to attend a specific school. Many teenagers interpret parents’ influence as an attempt to exert control, which often leads them to do the exact opposite thing. If you make time for yourself, you will be a better parent. Regardless of your schedule or agenda, take a break and relax for a few minutes when you can. This will help you relax and feel better so that you can attend to your kids properly.
Insist that they clean their hands thoroughly before and after meals. This practice will go a long way in protecting them from illness.
Apply a little lavender oil to your neck and hold your infant close to help your baby calm down. The aroma should calm your child right away. This also works when you want your baby to nap, as lavender oil is quite calming.
Instead of shrieking at your child when they do wrong, create a hand signal they can understand that means to stop right now. These signals can give your child the appropriate warning to behave, as they will understand that discipline is imminent.
Be smart and pick your battles! Be sure that if you choose a fight, that it’s over something important or something that could potentially harm him. Every child will always need boundaries to live within; however, they also need to be able to express their individual personalities too.
An important part of effective parenting is finding time to praise your children for their good behavior. Most children crave attention. If being well-behaved does not get their parents’ attention, they may try acting out instead. By ignoring a child who is behaving him or herself, a parent is just asking for less enjoyable, negative behavior in the future.
There are countless good parents in the world, and many of them have a common bond: They did not come by their parenting skills without effort. Sometimes arming yourself with some solid child-rearing advice can help. Dealing with children is a complex process, and every parent who does it develops some handy knowledge that can be passed on. Helpful parenting tips are a true gem. Locate them where you can, and use them to make your life easier.

There can be so many struggles that parents face on a daily basis that sometimes it seems that nothing can help. Just a few simple tips from this article can give you a parenting advantage that can turn things around. Gather the information you need before you are in the middle of those daily struggles, and you will be ahead of the game.
Please don’t smoke around your child. If you are going to have a cigarette do so outside the house and never smoke when your child is in the car with you. The risks associated with your youngster being exposed to passive smoking are many and you are endangering their health through no choice of their own.
Try to think before you speak, especially when you are angry or emotional. Words that come out with little thought can leave a lasting impression on your child, so it is important to be considerate. Give yourself a time-out before speaking so you can cool off and gather your thoughts.
Make use of online video conferencing to build your children’s relationships with relatives who live far away. By scheduling regular calls with grandparents, aunts, and uncles, your child will become familiar with their relatives and not be timid around them when they come to visit in person. Your child will be able to enjoy the relationships despite the distance.
As a parent you want to see your child succeed. Early academics may seem like the way to put them on the path to success. The media tend to tout this. But child development professionals do not. The child under 6 or 7 needs lots of running and playing (large motor activity) to develop his or her brain and learning potential. Early reading does not lead to later academic success.
When administering medication to your child, be sure to base the dosage on his weight rather than his age. The effectiveness of the medication is dependent on your child’s size more than his age. This is especially important for children who are over or under weight for their age. Always consult with your doctor if you are unsure of the dosage.
You can see that you don’t have to wait until you are in a parenting struggle to try and find help. It is much better to have some handy advice at your fingertips. You will find that your daily parenting gets better with every tip you use, so try some of the advice from this article and you will be on your way to parenting success.

Many people think that good parenting comes naturally, once your children come along but parenting is a skill that can be improved with sound advice and tips. As your children grow, your skills as a parent can grow, too. The practical advice found in this article can help you to grow, starting today.
When reducing your child’s television and video game time, make sure you are creating other fun activities to choose from. Play boardgames with your children; play outside with them; or go somewhere fun outside of the house, like a park or a play area. Whatever you do, make sure you provide options to your children.
Stand your ground when it comes to your child’s bedtime. If it’s past their bedtime and they’re begging you for just one more TV show or book, stand your ground. An hour less sleep per night reduces a child’s ability to function the next day, affecting their concentration at school. Teenagers need eight to nine hours of sleep per night, whereas younger school-age children should get a minimum of ten to twelve hours.
Cool down that hot cereal in a hurry for that fast morning meal. Hot cereal is often too hot to eat straight out of the microwave. Kids don’t want to wait for it to cool and use that as a reason not to eat it. Stir in some frozen fruit and all of a sudden even that yucky oatmeal will be more appealing and cooler!
Set goals that are attainable for your child. It’s great to challenge them, but if you make every goal unrealistic, they are certain to feel like a failure. Set your expectations based on your child’s age and abilities. Consider their personal interests too. This will help your child to see more successes, and fewer failures.
Encourage your child to play on his own without your direct involvement or instruction. Being able to play independently will help your child’s creativity and will be a sanity saver for you. Just be sure to be in the room and keep an eye on your child to make sure he is safe.
Whatever your parenting challenges, knowing that you are not alone, and that answers to problems are available, will make you feel heartened that you can be successful as a parent. Even the best parents can make good use of the sound advice found in the article above. Start putting it into practice today, and you will make your job a little easier.

No one is fully ready for the hardships that parenting will bring their way as they finally experience it, but neither are they ready for the joys. You can watch all the TV you want to, but until you experience the daily routines, you won’t be able to grasp it fully. This article is designed for those, new and young alike, looking for some tips on how to proceed.
When explaining to your children that reading is important, make sure you are setting the example. Your child needs to see you reading and know that it is both, for your enjoyment and also for getting the information that you need. Set a good example for your child and he or she will see reading as a necessity.
Add safeguards to your computer in order to protect your child when he is online. The Internet is a connection to the world, and your child WILL be exposed to inappropriate content if no safeguards are in place. Filters that only allow access safe websites are absolutely necessary when your child is surfing the web.
Start giving your child healthy treats from the beginning. By offering sugary snacks and other unhealthy treats as either the normal snack or as a reward for good behavior, you are setting up patterns that will be very hard to break. Instead build those patterns with goodies that help them build healthy choices for years to come!
Encourage your child to play on his own without your direct involvement or instruction. Being able to play independently will help your child’s creativity and will be a sanity saver for you. Just be sure to be in the room and keep an eye on your child to make sure he is safe.
If your child will be attending a funeral with you, it is a good idea to prepare him or her for what she might see, hear, and smell. Others’ grieving and emotional outpourings may be difficult for young children to witness, and it’s a good idea for the child to expect people to be crying or upset ahead of time.
As previously noted, you will never know all that you need to know as a parent. But that doesn’t keep you from trying again, every day. There is much to learn but a lot of it is fun. By taking advice from this article, you can add to your knowledge that will make it easier to make it through each day.

The definition of shyness.
Liz is outside the mess hall. All the other kids were already seated in groups, munching their lunch, chatting happily. Liz was afraid that people would look at her, so she hung outside, trying to muster the courage to enter. The thought causes her to hesitate and to feel edgy, her heart beating wildly and she is shaking all over. So she left.
The onset of shyness in children.
The term used for Liz’s problem is “approach avoidance conflict.” Liz really wants to be in the company of others but she is unsure of what to do. So these children grope and fumble with words, are self conscious, and just keep quiet because they are too scared to talk. Liz and her kind will not feel comfortable when left alone with others and will not talk unless talked to which might be interpreted as due their low intelligence level. Children will sense when people held them in low esteem and this will further erode their confidence. During later childhood and adolescence shyness becomes increasingly associated with loneliness, depression, social anxiety, and low self-worth. The shy ones may feel tiny in relation to others, or wish to disappear all together.
Is shyness inborn or acquired? Both.
Shyness may be in the blood. One in five babies born is known to be shy in nature. Shyness may also be brought about by a bad experience that causes the child to feel extreme discomfort and the feeling that he is not as good as others, say being derided and bullied in a new environment.
The negative effects of modern living.
Among the factors that can cause shyness are children being forced to stay at home for safety reasons, the trend for smaller families, and modern conveniences that allow a child to entertain and amuse himself. Children who are shy by nature may even welcome the opportunity to stay at home by themselves.
What can parents do to wean the child from shyness?
It is the job of parents to emphasize the child’s good points in order to boost his confidence level. They must resist their parental instinct to shield the child by letting, nay, prodding them to socialize. They can also deal directly with the situation by exposing the child to the disadvantages of being shy and showing examples of how children successfully dealt with their shyness.
Parents must never ever, let their own childhood memories and frustrations interfere and get in the way! Love and accept your child, warts and all.

You see it in the movies – fathers pacing to and fro on hospital corridors waiting for the cry that will signal their child’s birth. Modern practice is to assume the dad-to-be should be at the birth to offer support. Lately, there are instances where the parents and the midwives are outright against this new practice.
Some of the reasons given are: The mothers know that they are a pitiful sight and hate the idea of their husbands seeing them in that state. Some dads think the sight of baby being born will put them off sex with their partner in the future. Seeing their wives in misery is also too much for some men.
Researchers suggest that women have a happier childbirth if they are supported by a trained woman rather than a stressed father-to-be. Her mother would be perfectly capable of providing support and comfort, or maybe an experienced friend, as well as the doula trained to give help during childbirth.
Most men, however, want to be present when their baby is born. Such men can be very good at it and both parents can share the joy of seeing their baby for the first time.
What the Father-to-be can do. Attend a seminar or a briefing about childbirth, what their wives are expected to experience and what part they can play.
At this time, your partner and your baby are all that matter. You are there solely for them, and to help them in any way you can. It is difficult finding words of encouragement and it will feel as though your presence is not helping or appreciated – but it is.
You may see a side of your partner you’ve never seen before. Don’t be surprised if she treats you badly. Don’t give a damn, just grin and bear it. Put yourself in her place and you will understand and agree that perhaps you would behave even worse. Not perhaps, but surely you would.

You baby’s coming soon, and you’ve been working on the nursery. You want everything to be perfect but there are so many decisions to make. What theme do you want? What color scheme are you planning on? Have you chosen a bedding design yet? There are a few things to think over when choosing the bedding for the baby.
For one thing, the bedding materials should be flame-resistant. You should also find out what the thread count of the bedding material is. The higher the thread count, the better the fabric quality, and the softer it will be for your baby. You don’t want your baby’s sensitive skin to be irritated by scratchy fabric. Your baby’s bed should be comfortable as well as interesting for your baby. After all they will be spending quite a bit of time in their crib.
When you purchase bedding you may notice it has a stiff feel to it. This is alright. Most manufacturers use products on the bedding to make it stays wrinkle-free and looking new. Washing the bedding set before using it is a good idea. This will soften it up a bit and will be more comfortable.
Once you decide on your crib design, you may want to shop around. When you shop around, you’ll save money because some retailers can give you discounts or freebies. Many also offer free shipping with your purchase. It’s also a good idea if you find a retailer that also sells accessories for your baby bedding. You can also ask if the retailer can give you a discount if you buy the bedding plus accessories.
You may only use bedding items for what seems like a short period of time but it is a very special time for both you and your baby. In the future, you can bring back fond memories when you look at your baby’s first blanket, or first baby mobile, etc.
You can be stylish and wear the most modern fashions, designed for your shape and size, with woman within free shipping coupons.

A baby monitor is a necessity. It enables you to do other things while that baby sleep in the crib. One monitor will be in the nursery and its pair will be with you. You’ll be able to hear the movements and sounds of your baby through the monitor.
Ideally, the monitors work best if they are within 10 feet of the baby. So you want them close, but not too close to your baby. You can carry the receiver with you during the day and plug it in by your bed at night. Basic features include an on/off switch and volume adjustor. You can also put batteries in the receiver instead of plugging it in every time.
Some models feature a light display that flashes when your baby cries. If you have this on your baby monitor, you don’t need to turn the volume up, but you have to glance at the monitor often. The best baby monitors come with cameras that you can connect to your VCR. You’ll be able to see your baby without being in the same room.
There are also disadvantages to using a baby monitor. If you use a cordless phone, the baby monitor can pick up your private conversations. Even talking in the same room as the baby will transfer the sound of your voice to the receiver, so you can’t complain about visitors that won’t go home. We once had neighbours who use the same baby monitors and same frequency as we did, and we could hear their night time routine if our monitor was on. And because they are electronic devices, you should keep them away form moisture.
Generally, a baby monitor can be very useful. They enable you to do other stuff or chores while you baby is sleeping. But don’t ever replace a baby monitor for your care. You should still go and check your baby from time to time.

The passing of watery stools in excess of three times in any twenty four hour period, diarrhea can be a symptom of further conditions. As such, it is split into two distinct groups; acute and chronic. A common condition which affects most people at one time or another; diarrhea in toddlers is very common, and rarely a cause for concern.
the condition can result from various causes. A change in eating patterns can bring it on, or a minor infection in the intestines. It could also be a natural response of the baby’s growing body. It is quite common for a baby of up to twelve months old to have it from between two to three times in a year.
In the majority of cases, such episodes will clear up within no more than a couple of days or so and as such is not serious and should not evoke serious worries. Anything lasting longer than this could carry risk of dehydration however.
Sometimes the problem may persist for more than a couple of days. In such cases, get medical advice as soon as possible. If bleeding is present, or it is stubbornly unrelenting, seek immediate medical attention.
Diagnosing the problem: There are two types of the condition. The acute type is the one caused most often by an infection. The most common, there is rarely anything to worry about. The chronic type is caused by other health issues. Diagnosing which condition is being suffered is through a simple blood test.
Providing treatment: When first experienced, it is important that infants continue to feed normally; be it by bottle or breast. Rehydration drinks may be recommended in some cases, but this will be advised by the doctor as necessary.
As mentioned earlier, it is unlikely that diarrhea in toddlers is a symptom of more serious issues, so parents should not be preoccupied. It is only when the problem continues for more than two days that medical attention should be sought. Any infections that may be present in the intestinal tract can then be diagnosed and treated.

We’re all familiar with the term, “That’s child’s play.” When we hear that, we think of something that’s simple and easy. But this actually plays a major role in a child’s development.
We all know that children like to play. What some of us don’t know is how important play is to a child’s life. Play is essential to every area of a child’s growth and development.
Play is a good way for kids to use their energy. Stamina, strength, and large and small motor skills are all developed during play. Play also develops most of sensory learning. Play is significant to physical development in that without it the body could not grow and develop normally.
Children are naturally curious. They explore and learn through playing. This can further helped along if parent and educators make the right toys, materials, and environment available for children.
Children learn about the world and discover information that is needed for learning. Through play children learn basic concepts such as colours, counting, how to build things, and how to solve problems. Playtime is also the time when your child’s thinking and reasoning skills are at work.
Play also teaches kids how to relate to one another, negotiate roles, share stuff, and obey rules. They can also find themselves in groups and learn how to be a team member. Friends and acquaintances are also gained through play.
Play fulfills many needs including a sense of accomplishment, successfully giving and receiving attention, and the need for self-esteem. It helps them develop a strong sense of self, and is emotionally satisfying to them. They learn all about fairness and different emotions.
Child’s play really is essential and should be encouraged. There are endless ways of playing with your child. And as we all know, childhood is fleeting, so let them enjoy being a kid while they are one!

First things first, you should have a will. And it is also obvious why – so you could properly distribute your material wealth to your family or maybe some friends, but it also happens to be a good means of showing how a person managed his or her estate while still among the living.
Here are some quick tips for making a will, and what you should do – or not do.
Do update your will
Change is inevitable. You may gain or lose material possessions. Congress has a tendency to change estate tax laws without any advance notice. Ditto the IRS who can also change these laws to their liking, and it won’t matter whose side they are on. Every state has different estate laws. Take some time out to contemplate about life and its myriad changes. Do some self-talk and ask yourself if you need to change your will to make your passing a lot less stressful for your loved ones.
Do – Choose the right executor
You need to make sure that your executor would be willing to help and not just after your dough, and have a strong sense of ethics and honesty. Your executor must know what he or she is supposed to do, and you need to receive their consent as well. You would also want to have a backup executor. The executor should also be younger than the person making the will. The point is to lessen the chances of having an executor die before you do.
Do not – make the guardian and trustee the same
Family and finance are two separate things, so you’ll want to name different people as guardian and trustee – one to take care of the kids, the other to take care of your material wealth. It is very important, yet underrated to make sure these two people are different. This is both good strategy and common sense as you wouldn’t want to upset the balance of things by overworking somebody and having him or her do both tasks.
Allot a reasonable amount for your spouse – not too much!
Leaving money that is more than sufficient to your spouse is not a very good idea. You should always ensure that your children get some part of your inheritance, as leaving it all to your significant other can result in bitterness, not to mention the fact that you cannot monitor your finances that way. Depositing some of your financial wealth to a trust is one way to keep it growing.
Do not be too specific
Believe it or not – there are families who squabble about who get something as simple as generic household appliances. Do not be specific to the point of being anal when outlining your will. Being too specific could result in unnecessary and costly problems later on. When deciding who gets what, the best way to go about this would be to entrust a batch of possessions to one person, rather than entrusting them item per item. This would allow you to maintain some order in the family, and is very effective as well.

Bathing newborns can be terrifying for new moms. It’s just that newborn babies are so fragile, and when they get wet and slippery, it’s a little scary. You’ll get used to it, though. You only have to bathe the newborn baby two to three times a week since more than that would dry his skin.
Babies who still have their umbilical cords attached should not be placed in any kind of bathtub yet. This goes for circumcision wounds, too. Until then, give your baby a sponge bath.
When you place your baby in the bathtub, give your whole attention. Leaving her for even a minute can literally be fatal. Turn the answering machine on and ignore the doorbell. Never run the bath water with the baby in the tub. Fill the tub and check the temperature before you add the baby.
Be prepared for the fact that your baby will not like the bath. There may be a lot of crying, so plan to make it as short as possible. Also, the bath water gets cold to the baby rather quickly; another reason to make it quick. One trick to help keep the water warm is to soak a towel in very warm water and lay it in the bottom of the tub. This also keep the baby from slipping around and is a good cushion for him. Keep one hand under her head to support her neck, and keep her from slipping into the tub. You can keep your baby from panicking by speaking to him in calming and soothing tones.
Use lukewarm water on your baby’s tender skin, and only soaps and shampoos designed for babies. It’s ideal to use only water to bathe your baby on the first few weeks, until you determine any skin allergies. Have a towel and diaper ready to wrap her in immediately when you’re finished, to avoid her getting chilled.
In time, your baby will like bathing. For more tips on making bath time fun for older babies, check out my article in “Mommy to Mommy – The Truth about Taking Care of Baby”.

You, your friend, or family member might be pregnant. And pregnant women need to shop. Here are 5 gifts that any mother will most certainly be appreciative of. The baby shower gift ideas are great for those who are shopping or for mom’s to put on their gift registry.
Diapers. This isn’t a very interesting gift, but no one can deny that it is useful. I don’t any mom who will complain about having too many diapers with a newborn at home. To make your diaper gift more interesting, dress it up. You can always go online to check out diaper cake ideas. Some diaper cakes involve as much as 150 diapers, some booties, bibs, and many more baby necessities.
Layettes, blankets, socks and burp cloths. Chances are they are going to get tons of these. However, these gifts tend to come in newborn or 3 months sizes which after a few weeks probably won’t serve its purpose anymore. Making this a great gift is if you buy them in larger sizes. This way, the baby will still have new things in the months to come.
Mom products. The last few weeks of pregnancy are very uncomfortable and can be hard on Mom. Be sure to treat Mom like a queen. Mom will be so busy with the baby once it is born.
Savings Bonds for the Baby. Giving a savings bond is a way of helping invest the child’s future. While everyone is thinking of now you are thinking ahead. It can also give the parents the idea of taking care of the baby’s future in case they haven’t started on that yet.
Gift Certificates for Baby. You’ll be sure to please with gift certificates. This way, the parents can get what they want with the certificate. If they have set up a registry, then that would be where you should get the gift certificate. If not, then you can choose between their favourite supermarket or baby store. Check card gift certificates are also a good idea. It works like a credit card and can be used anywhere.
Also, it’s best not to buy clothing unless the parents suggest you to. The parents probably have bought plenty already.

First off, get a few guests together – no, not for a conga line, but to help you out with a laundry basket. Get those guests to help you fill up the large laundry basket with baby favors such as diapers, bibs and the like. You can also use it as a room decoration. Not only does it have everything baby needs, it can be used to carry things as well!
Baby Quilt Ideas. If quilting and sewing is your thing, you can certainly give this as a gift. An alphabet quilt pattern looks great. Such pattern would include each letter of the alphabet on 26 squares, matched with a popular object beginning with each letter. Numbers would also be fine here. Each guest can be given/sent a square before the shower and can embroider, quilt, or embellish it according to her own taste. If the quilt is meant to be a wall hanging, guests can also attach little items like rattles and toys. Make sure that your guests sign their designated part of the block, and set a deadline for the pieces to be finished and the quilt to be completed. This can also be used as a decoration at the shower.
Create a scrapbook for the shower. Take blank scrapbook pages and have everyone write down their well wishes (without Mom knowing it) for the new baby. You can either have this completed during the shower or shortly before, or you could present it to the proud mom after she gives birth at the hospital. Some nice photos would accentuate such a gift if you give it post-shower!
Somewhat related to the above idea would be passing out several pieces of heavy paper to your team of guests, with the papers all containing baby-related pictures, stamps or whatnot. Have the guests write their name on the paper and then write down some baby/parenting advice. And once your team is done, collect the pieces of paper, punch holes in a cover, and tie the whole thing together with ribbon. Then have Mom read everything aloud. This is your chance to organize your guests and create your own signature Hallmark moment. Again, this is an activity where creativity is at a premium.
Have each guest bring an extra gift (small item recommended) for Daddy-to-be and the host of the shower will then place them in large gift bag to present to him at the close of the party (usually after the main gifts are opened). He can open this with wifey at this point, or save it for a time when more family and friends are present.
A diaper shower too can be arranged. This would be best for those families with two babies upwards. Ask your guests to bring nothing more than a set of diapers as a gift. Families with more than one infant need as many diapers as possible, and Mom will definitely be delighted to see a veritable Rocky Mountain range of diapers. But diapers do not need to be the only gift for this shower – diapering aids such as ointments, powders and wipes can be given away too.
Casserole Shower. If you can’t think of anything to give the mom-to-be, then a Casserole Shower would be fine and dandy. Mobilize your team by having them bring any ready to cook meal, preferably a casserole that can be frozen until right after the baby’s birth. And don’t forget the list of ingredients and cooking instructions along with the containers. The convenience would be much appreciated by the new and happy mom, as well as her new baby.
The Book Party would be the last shower idea you can consider in this article. Just have your team of guests buy their most cherished book from childhood as a gift for the expectant mom.
